we should add a History section

I've unsuccessfully tried to find some good sources on the history of our current military pay system. As I heard it, Eisenhower went way beyond the "New Deal" when he created our modern military compensation model: Where else in the US does the CEO (General) get paid less than 10x the pay of his/her lowest paid employee (Private) who lives in a free house a block away from him/her? Where else in the US does an employee get paid more if he\she has more dependents to support? In addition to full socialized healthcare, free college, and a generous structured retirement plan? Pretty much nowhere else, AFAIK... "From each according to his ability, to each according to his need" seems to closely resemble the guiding principles of this system.

I say this as an old soldier myself, but it's always seemed remarkable to me that one of the most socialist institutions in our society turns out so many of the most conservative members of our society! --User:Brycemilton — Preceding undated comment added 03:27, 25 June 2022 (UTC)

Basic Allowance for Subsistence

I am not sure if this is the same for all services but in the US Marine Corps, single Marines in the rank of SSgt and below are still issued meal cards. They do recieve BAS, but it is then deducted. I am not sure why they do this but after checking the Leave and Earning Statement of one of my junior Marines I saw it for myself. Bunns 1775 (talk) 15:45, 18 May 2010 (UTC)

Two sections should probably be combined into one

I don't have the knowledge to handle this, but having read the article, I get the impression there's been an unintential 'double-up' of information, so could someone with the needed knowledge please take a look and make any corrections needed?

Sections 4, 5, and 6 are 'Special pay,' 'Historic pay raise chart,' and 'Other types of pay' respectively.

Sections 4 and 6 both appear to cover much the same type of information, and both cover 'Imminent danger pay.'

Even if they shouldn't be combined into a single section, it would make sense for section 6 to be moved above the table in section 5.
